United Nations envoy Michael Bloomberg and Greenwich billionaire Ray Dalio announced a $185 million partnership over four years between Dalio’s OceanX initiative and Bloomberg Philanthropies to raise awareness of the challenges facing ocean ecosystems.

OceanX and Bloomberg are undertaking a joint exploration of the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument — “in our own backyard” as referenced by Bloomberg in a YouTube video posted Monday morning — using M/V Alucia, OceanX’s marine research and exploration vessel.

“We saw that as a way of kicking off our partnership,” Dalio said in the video announcement. “I’m thrilled to be on this shared mission to explore the ocean and then bring it back so that everyone can see it.”
