Billionaire Abilio Diniz was indicted alongside a slew of other executives at Brazilian food processor BRF on Monday over allegations of fraud and endangering the public health. In its report, federal police accused the company of distributing chickens contaminated with salmonella and hiding laboratory tests from government inspectors.
Diniz previously served as BRF’s chairman. He stepped down earlier this year.
The 404-page report accused Diniz of helping cover up tests that showed toxic residue in chicken meat designated for export to China. Police obtained access to WhatsApp messages and other forms of communication between executives.
