Ripple Chairman Chris Larsen breaks into the Forbes 400 list of wealthiest Americans. As a result of a recent surge in Ripple’s native currency XRP, the debuting billionaire also becomes the first ever crypto tycoon to make it to the elite club..
With an estimated net worth of $2.1 billion USD, Ripple co-founder Larsen takes the 383rd spot among the wealthiest 400 people in the U.S, just making the cutoff, as reported by Business Insider. Even though Forbes pushed the minimum cutoff to $2.1 billion, with an increase of $100 million since last year, Larsen sprinted home with XRP’s sudden recent rise, making his maiden appearance on the list.
As one of the 15 newcomers to the list, Larsen is the only crypto tycoon whose fortune solely comes from cryptocurrencies, particularly due to his personal XRP holdings and an enticing stake in blockchain play Ripple Labs.
For the first time ever, Forbes launched a self-made billionaire indicator, a gauge of which among the wealthy have inherited their wealth or worked for it. The business magazine acknowledged Larsen as a self-made billionaire, giving him a score of eight on a scale of one to ten.
