Things are going to be changing in the world of billionaire net worth in the coming months. Of course with $139 billion dollars, Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos is still holding down first place as the richest person in the world. But as reported in the last few days, Bezos will be divorcing his wife of 25 years, and with no prenup and living in the 50/50 state of Washington, his wife Mackenzie will be splitting their fortune in half. Chances are slim they will have double of what Microsoft’s Bill Gates current worth of $93.8 billion, so Bezos will lose the title of the richest man in the world and richest person in the world. Those titles will once again be returned to Gates, who before last years rise of Amazon stocks, had held the title for the last 25 years. However, with the drop of Jeff Bezos in the net worth wars, his soon to be ex-wife will go from non-existent on the lists to the richest woman in the world, a title now held by France’s Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, the daughter of the late Lillian Bettencourt.
Coming in at number three once again (as he has since Jeff Bezos took over the top spot at the beginning of last year) is Berkshire-Hathaway founder Warren Buffet. Even with all the market volatility recently both he and Gates have held steady if not improved their net worth. It goes to show how great an investor he is as he manages to keep his worth this month at $80.9 billion.
Rounding out the top 5 are number 4, Frances’ Bernard Arnault, at $70.2 billion and in the number 5 spot is Spains’ Amancio Ortega with $60.6 billion. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg had held the number 4 and 5 spots until data breach scandals brought his net worth down with a boom. He is the person to lose the most in the last 12 months, cutting over $20 billion from his net worth, leaving him with a paltry $58.9 billion. Jeff Bezos is the top gainer adding $26 billion to his worth in the last year. One thing we can predict is that all of these billionaires will be okay though, able to pay their normal everyday bills….
