Shelter Island Estate Finally Sells For $13.95 Million, From Original Ask of $78 Million

A luxury home on a private island in Flathead Lake by Rollins, Montana has recently been sold. This home has been in the news probably more than any other property that has not really been lived in.
A few of the highlights include:

  • The 22-acre Shelter Island Estate has 7,000 ft of shoreline and sits on Flathead Lake in Montana
  • Main hall of the 24,000sq ft house has 45ft ceiling, the master bedroom has a marble and mahogany closet
  • Property features a docking system that automatically takes boats off the lake and inside the building

The luxury mansion was constructed by California real estate tycoon Donald Abbey in the early 2000s and features a five-bedroom, eight-bath main house covering more than 24,000 square feet, with 45-foot-tall ceilings. A shooting range, gym and heated boat stall are part of the lavish estate that was once listed for a purchase price of $78 million.
The state tax board ruled that the property was worth $41.8 million in 2015, after a tax battle in which Abbey claimed the island’s taxable worth was far less at $9.8 million. The 2014 tax bill for the property was $367,696 and was listed at the time at $44.90 million.
You may remember that Donald Abbey is the tycoon that got caught in few money  problems a while back and had built these homes (and he built them to the highest standard, these are high quality builds here) then had to get rid of them for pennies on the dollar. Anyways here are 2 of those homes with the Shelter Island Estate recently selling for just $13.95 million, all the way down from the original $78 million asked.
Here is a great place top check-out over 250 images of the property on the Shelter Island Estate.

The property sits on Shelter Island, which is in Montana's Flathead Lake, one of the top three cleanest lakes in the world

Here is the other mansion in the Bradbury Estate’s section of Bradbury, California, that Donald Abbey also had problems selling after spending years to build and at a huge cost, only to end up selling it for @ $23 million.
