The World Ultra Wealth Report 2018 has ranked the countries where the number of ultra-rich people grew fastest between 2012 and 2017.
The number of ultra-rich people in certain countries has risen sharply in recent years and, though Asia is home to some of the planet’s poorest countries, it seems the continent is also where you’ll find a growing number of millionaires over years to come.
According to the World Ultra Wealth Report 2018— which defines an “ultra-rich” person as someone with a personal fortune of at least $30 million — the level of ultra-rich people in the Asia-Pacific region is expected to increase at a compound annual rate of 8.3%, a trend that the report attributes to the expansion of the industrial sector. The ultra-rich population in Asia is also the youngest in the world, according to the report.
While the Chinese are driving growth in Asia, countries like Bangladesh — which is home to 24.3% of the world’s poor according to World Bank data— are also introducing new wealth into the country through rapid urbanisation, investments in infrastructure, and growth in production.
